FOUNDED RAY'S HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING IN 1956.
In 1956 Ray Harty and his family became one of the first families to settle in the first phase of Hoffman Estates. Ray and his wife, Mary, both native Chicagoans had decided to raise their five children in the country. At this time Ray was a trouble shooter for Illinois Bell Telephone. Ray was skilled in many areas and was called on by neighbors and friends when they had a problem. One cold winter evening he was called on by his next door neighbor. They were with out heat. Ray gathered a few things and headed next door. It was a burned out motor and he replaced it with an extra one he kept on hand. Once again he had helped out a friend. He realized that as remote as Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg were that he could make money helping people out. For a couple of years he worked on his own out of his family car. As the area grew Ray had to keep up with demand and decided to hire a few helpers. Ray had become so successful that after 22 years with Illinois Bell Telephone he retired and now all his energy went into his own company. By 1972 Ray moved the company to Schaumburg because he needed a warehouse for his inventory. Ray did not do this on his own though. He had the help and support of his wife Mary. Mary worked a lot behind the scene while raising her five children. Ray's two sons William and Paul also became active in the heating and air conditioning business in the 1970's.
Ray passed away in August of 1990. Since this time the Ray Harty Family have continued and improved on an already great business. Ray's is not only one of the first companies in the area, it is now one of the oldest celebrating it's 52nd year. With a great reputation preceding it, it's no wonder that there have been others that picked up on it's name. This has been confusing for a lot of customers.
